Subject :I am still trying to decide what breed dog would be best for my family....any suggestions? here is what I want?
low to no shedding
easy to housebreak
not a constant barker
not a yard digger
good with teenagers
likes long walks and playing but also cuddling and taking it easy
easy to housebreak
intelligent
doesnt smell (not gassy and hound smelling)
protective (alerts you to people in your yard or whatever)
trustworthy
not an escape artist
companion likes to cuddle and be petted and wrestle etc
so far in doing internet searches I came up with the following breed matches: doberman, great dane, airdale, poodle, goldendoodle, char pei, giant schnauzer, and weimaraner.
If you have any other breeds to suggest please tell me about them or if you comments about why or why not one of the above breeds would not be a good choice.
I have investigated rescue dogs viapetfinder, but alot of them want between 200 - 500 dollar donations plus spay cost. Its cheaper to buy an AKC dog out of the newspaper and i know its healthier....I dont want go go through what Oprah is.
well anyway thanks ahead of time. I jsut want to get the right dog its alife time commitment to me.
we have experience with collies.
thanks again. |

What you should do is go to local store and buy a stuffed dog.
You will never find a dog that will fill all of the things you want in a dog.
And if you are thinking of any of the dogs that are crossed with a poodle, well don't because they don't fit the category that some people has built them up to be.
Just go to shelter and get a dog you will pay a small amount and wont have to worry about shots and spaying and neutering. |

You're looking for a Pitbull. Pitbulls meet all of those criteria. Also, please do rescue. Trust me, the vet costs you will spend on a new puppy will far exceed any adoption fees charged by shelters. Buying an AKC dog does not guarantee a healthy dog. It does often offer the option to return the puppy, should it have health issues, so that the breeder can euthanize it.
Millions of dogs are already waiting in shelters for home's they'll never have. Why add more? |

My Italian Greyhound fits every one of your needs. There is NO shedding, he was easy to housebreak, he only barks when he plays or if he's alerting us to someone, has never dug in the yard, is good with ALL ages, he loves to run, play, walk, but is a total lap dog, VERY intelligent, I bath him every other week and in-between baths I only have to wipe him down, he is very trustworthy, he has never escaped, in fact, he'll walk around the front yard and never makes a move to leave me. |

I would get a lab. Labs are so smart and can be trained very well if you put sometimes into them. Dobs are good protectors. Great danes or any large breed with narrow chests are at higher risk for bloat, (GVD). Weims are smart but also dumb. Labs can be hyper when growing up, but in the long run will be great conpanions for children. |

Cher Pei's are EXTREMELY hard to take care of and have ALOT of healthy issues. But loyal, loving, highly intelligent, VERY protective. |

A dog is a dog, if we do not choose our kids before they are born, we should not "choose" a dog because of their breed. Help a dog in a shleter, be an angel to animals. Don't discriminate them because they are stray. |

If you are getting an "AKC registered" dog for less money than would pay for a petfinder.com dog then you can be pretty sure you're dealing with a back yard breeder.
A goldendoodle is not a recognised breed. |

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for sure, smart, easy to housebreak, loves to cuddle, constent companion, sweet nature, will bark to alert if you teach it to, not a yappy dog or barky dog by any means, did I mention sweet & smart, quick to train basic commands if you are consistent, can be crate trained, love to play, walk, not wrestle so much but will play fetch & tug. Mine helps me train foster dogs. Cavaliers do shed if you do not brush them every few day. They weigh anywhere from 10 to 22 lbs so they are portable enough to go everywhere with you. Try PetFinder.com under rescues and breeds for more info. Shelters are great places to find dogs, they can also help you find the right dog for your lifestyle & family. |

I was going to suggest a goldendoodle until I saw it on your list!
Yeah, goldendoodles are really good dogs! It is a mix between a golden retriever and a poodle. Poodles are good dogs also. There are 4 different kinds of poodles teacup (the smallest breed) toy (the second smallest breed) miniature (2nd to last biggest.) Standard (biggest) Weimaraner's are hunting dogs! They need a lot of excersise.
Sometimes dogs in the paper could be a puppy mill! So be careful. |

Subject :I am still trying to decide what breed dog would be best for my family....any suggestions? here is what I want?
I own a black lab and she was in the shelter. when we got her she was really skiddish around my kids....(3yrs, 5yrs, and 7yrs). the shelter let us take her home for the weekend and said if the dog doesn't accept us then we could bring her back. the dog was to be an outside dog anyway, but since hurricane ike took our fence she has became in inside dog. at first she made some messes on the floor, but we started working with her and before we knew it, she started standing at the door to go outside. she is estimated 2-2 1/2yrs old. they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, well they're wrong. this has turned out to be the best family member of all animals. my older boys rough house with her but my daughter (3yrs) can take and walk her on the leash with no help. it's as if she knows when to behave and when she can act up. so if you were to ask my opinion i'd say a lab whether black, yellow or chocolate would be an excellent choice. she, my dog, is a real cuddler. everytime we have movie night, we all make a pallet in the middle of the floor, and she is in the very middle. not want to play but to be a part of the family and relax......to me the best place to look is from the shelter because no matter what kind of dog you get from there it seems like they are the loyalest dogs, because you gave them their life back....dogs can since when somethings wrong and if their in the shelter, they know something is wrong. i hope my story was helpful. be wise and choose carefully, for this is another family member to have and love. not to take your anger out on |

That sounds like the ultimate dog you have described there. Unfortunately, a lot of the behaviors you listed are natural in most, if not all, dogs (such has barking and digging). Keep in mind that with consistency and patience, you can turn almost any dog into "the perfect pet" for your family. You say that you looked through petfinder and the dogs were costing 200-500. I'm not sure where you live or what rescues you were looking, but I would urge you to check out your local shelters. If you do indeed want a dog with all the characterstics listed above, you will most likely not find them in a puppy because puppies are products of their environment, temprement, owners, etc (i.e. tons of factors). Older dogs, however, are much more established. You know what you're getting. Plus, many are already trained and house broken (plus they've already gone through the horrible "teen" years). I adopted my dog (a purebred German Shorthaired Pointer) for $100 at my local SPCA. Yeah, I got lucky and ended up with a purebred, but I was more interested in finding a dog that matched my lifestyle the best, which is what shelters and rescues can help you do. If you do end up buying a pup through the newspapers, please do your research and find a reputable breeder (you can google "reputable breeder" and read about what to ask and how to find one). Best of luck and be patient in your research! It will pay off when you welcome a wonderful pooch into your family! |

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
My dog riley LOVES to cuddle!! also loves to go anywhere you go so there's no escaping or barking. My dog hardly ever barks (my brother had to practically teach him lol) but he will whine and do an occassional bark if somene is at the door or something. I'm 15, my brother is 17 so he's definitly good with teens. He was also housebroken within like 4 months, just tell him to go to the door and open the door tell him "go potty" and he goes and comes right back because he knows he gets a treat
DONT get a poodle oh goodness they are SOO yappy! My neighbor has one and ugh I hate it, I can't even walk past their yard when I come home without it chasing after me yapping its head off!
Also, my oldest brother had a Great Dane and he was crazy! He tore up everything but he couldn't really help it, he was just so big.
Good Luck with your dog search!
Here's what the Cavalier looks like: http://static.open.salon.com/files/cavalier-king-charles-spaniel-00971232597021.jpg |

Goldendoodles that I know are usually very hyper, not sure if you want to go with them. The larger poodles as far as I know are great. Instead of the rescues on petfinder have you looked into the shelters? Also, just because the dog is "akc" that does not mean it will be healthy. My newf was a newspaper ad, she ended up having 2 genetic problems, one of them, megaesophagus, which half the dogs on your list are prone to genetically(and i beleive, from my experience, is the worse condition for anyone's dog to suffer from), caused us to have to put her down. The reputable breeders have the parents screened for many conditions, which adds to their cost(most dogs coming form a reputable breeder are around $1000 or more). Granted no one knows what the future will hold for any dog, but be careful.
Other than that, I also think a great dane sounds like a good dog for you, but you need to be careful with getting them, as they do have medical conditions that they are proned to. |

we have a border collie and she pretty much fits all those but for the fact that she will cuddle mainly only at night. and she only barks when she hears an odd noise or when people are nearby.
but if you want one from your list, i'd choose the weimaraner. they are beautiful and seem really mellow. |

try that test its amazing after you try it tell me what breeds you get
i tried it and for my test results i got my current dog a doberman is 96% Right for me try it.
ok hope i helped.
I don't recommend a Doberman to you because they need a firm hand and a lot of training.
and a lot of people don't have dose qualities.
A goldendoodle is not a recognized breed its a mutt a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle.
A weimaraner is a Very energetic dog and needs lots of training.
when you Choice and buy your dog please spay and neuter. |

mutts are UNPREDICTABLE. that general temperament description that you found online about the goldendoodle? absolute crap.
buying a dog out of the NEWSPAPER is NOT in ANY WAY healthier than getting a dog that is HEALTH CHECKED, usually ALREADY SPAYED/NEUTERED, and also has ALL IT'S SHOTS from either a rescue or a BREEDER.
in most cases, the CRAPILY, BACK YARD BREEDER-BRED; PIECE OF CRAP that you'll get from the newspaper; is MUCH more unhealthy than one you'll get FOR THE SAME PRICE from a rescue. |
