Subject :115 lb. weimaraner with irritable bowel syndrome and looking for advice to cook food for him ?

I also have a Yorkie, so he will be eating cooked dog food also. The weimy can easily tolerate meats and simple carbs like pasta, potatoes and rice.

I need advice or websites that can tell me what to include in the dog food for a healthy balanced diet and how much he should be eating. I'm also wondering if the Yorkie's diet can be the same as the weimy's diet and again, how much to feed him. Basically, I'm seeking:

Advice for making this switch
Recipes and portions
Feeding frequency
Any other useful information and advice

Also, the dog is not obese, he's only 10-15 lbs overweight according to the vet, he just turned out to be huge.

Right now, he is on Canidae and is doing better than ever, but is still having almost weekly flare ups. Plus, it's $43 for 30 lbs and I'm going broke feeding him.

My advice would be to either to to the library or a book store and get Dr. Pitcairn's book "Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats". I feed home-made and have been using his book which not only contains recipes but has a section for dogs with health problems.

The book has advice about how to make the switch, lots of recipes, all kinds of useful info. I found this book in my vet's office and bought it for myself - to me, it's been well worth the investment.

Actually, if you feed raw or BARF you dont have to cook at all. I will star for you, many people here feed prey model diet.

My best advice is to feed your Weim a raw diet! You will be very pleasantly surprised!!

Ok that's your problem right there...Canidae. I have a Weimaraner and she did NOT do well on Canidae, too many grains and it caused flare ups monthly of gastroenterits. I switched her to a holistic dog food and ever since then she's had NO problems with stomach issues.

With feeding raw you will have to provide vitamins and special nutrients in order to make up for the "lack" of proper nutrients for a dog.

You are not only going broke feeding him but you are going broke taking him to the vets for his flare ups. If you switch to holistic you will not only stop the flare ups but he will be happier too. How much do you think you'll spend a week in raw feeding? $20 per week? $10 per week? Either way you'll spend $10 x 4 weeks = $40.00 a month and a 30lb bag will last you a lot longer than 1 month. So it'll work out the same in the end only raw feeding is a lot more work.

Switch your dog to Pinnacle Holistic food duck & potato or try EVO Innova. No grains and nothing that will upset his stomach. My dog has done great on Pinnacle Holistic foods so far we are 4 months without an issue.

Yes your dog is obese, if he's 15lbs over weight he is considered obese, unfortunately Weimaraners are prone to being overweight, he should be no more than 90lbs, 15lbs on a dog is the equivalent of 50lbs on a human. Cut his food in 1/2 and get him out to exercise a lot more.
