advice on a natural diet for my 17 week puppy
Hi, I am feeding my 17 week pup on Hills Science Plan lamb & rice for puppy. I sometimes give her a chicken wing once a week and sometimes small cuts of liver as training treats (sometimes tiny bits of cooked chicken for training also). I would really like to feed her a mix of a natural diet of raw meat/fish/veg (maybe in the morning) and kibble at dinner time? As this is what the breeder did with hers. Can anyone offer me advice on what to feed or buy and amounts? i was thinking chicken wings-necks, minced meat (but which ones?) some liver, heart etc? I give her a carrot stick as a chew and she loves it, also would i need to buy vitamin supplements? any advice would be great, thanks. |

Help with Weimaraner and dog food, Please! What can I feed him???
Hi, when my weimy started with digestive probs, he was about 5 as well, i had to feed him chicken breast and boiled rice twice a day, and i started using a raised feeding station so he didn't have to lower his head too far to eat....it seemed to work ok. He wasn't able to eat ordinary dog food ever again, but was quite happy with the chicken and rice. I did occasionally mix in the chicken flavour sensitive food that's available from vets, just for a change, and he was on that diet til he died 3 weeks ago at 11 years old. Good luck with your boy. |

This seems to be an issue with most weims, I have had Chelsea for three years and found that what works for one owner may not work for another, that being said my rockstar is on premium edge. It is a pet store brand but not super high end. Sometimes with the rockstars as with the rest of us gas just happens.

Puppy / youngster needing new home?
Can anyone help please? We have very recently lost our wonderful, much loved 'Blue dog', at the age of 11. Having had him from 5 weeks old, the home is not the same without him. We would like to offer a very good home to a pup or a youngster, that needs someone to love. We don't have a lot of money to pay the top prices, but a wonderful home is guaranteed. All replies will be answered. I have tried the Weimaraner Breed Rescue, but no-one has got back to me yet. If anyone can help, please e-mail bluehunt666@yahoo.co.uk. Thanks. |

2 Weimy's needing a temp foster home
hi there,
I am posting this on behalf of a contact from facebook.
Two Weimaraners...
wesley (11yrs) and ellie (5yrs), they are in URGENT need of a dog free foster home as they are going to put to sleep as their owner is being evicted through no fault of her own. she desperately wants her babies back but her ex husband has told her to have them put to sleep. she needs a foster for them until she can sort out suitable housing.
Right now they are in Burton on Trent..but can travell anywhere in UK as long as together etc.
If you can help please contact me..either thru here on facebook...

Any ideas for this problem?
hey...
I have been working with a dog trainer for my rescue Weimy and he suggested the clothes rope technique too....teaches them call back....as well as the circle of control.....the min they go out that circle or pull on rope they are called back...start with small distance first ie lead then go to rope and increase the length.....dont let the dog free to run until he gets the circle of control.....then ya know once he is off and you call him back he will come...
hope that works? |

Difference in dog food?
Oh my goodness I cannot stress this enough YES YES YES.... there is a difference. I fed my 4 month old weimaraner Pedigree.... and she was hospitalized with the vet for 3 days from an allergic reaction to the food! IT WAS AWFUL!!! Go the safe route... get food that is natural... leave out ones with fillers and all that junk... its just not worth it!!! |

New Pup Arriving Soon!
Hi Everyone!
I am looking to get a Weimaraner pup, and I am deciding between that and a Flatcoat retriever (as they are both pretty much the same temperament)
I am just wondering how your dogs cope with separation anxiety, and roughly how much exercise they need each day? I know they need a lot but I am wondering how much in comparison to a daily 1hr run, or cycling etc.
Any advice would be appreciated so that I can make an informed decision!
Thanks

Hey Shawn,
I have the same problem with my weim pup at times. I've started using a dog whistle but anything you do its going to need a lot of work, patience and understanding. You may find it useful to look at your behaviour as well when he forgets his place. Try a lower tone of voice, don't shout and scream, just stay firm with the command. Additionally you may find that stooping down to his level and calling him firmly may help. My weim often comes back when I stoop down to his level. I took my pup to puppy club at our vets and my vet trained her dog by tying a washing line (long rope) to her dogs collar and then loosing him off his leash. Apparently it helped the puppy establish its boundaries because my vet could attain quick control over her if overstepped. Over time when you are happy and feeling comfortable with your progress you ditch the line and allow them to run themselves. Hope this makes sense. Email me if you fancy a chat: lois_british_dressage_fairy@hotmail.com, maybe hear from you soon. xx |

Anxious when alone... advice appreciated
My eight and half month old weimaraner can't stand being left on his own. He has ripped up my carpets and continues to destroy anything in his path when alone. He has many toys and is always given a distraction aid (treat balls etc) when he is to be left on his own however these seem to make no difference. I understand he is still a puppy and therefore is a baby but it would be nice to know that he is coping ok and not in distress every time I leave him.
Additionally he wont eat when I am away, not even treats. He isn't left alone for great lengths of time the most I've ever been away from him is about 6 hours. He has to learn that he can't come everywhere with me. Any advice as to what I can do to help him? Take care all xx |

Tail hair loss (nibbleing) What is this???
My eight and a half month old weimaraner has a small bald patch appearing in the middle of his tail. He has not been docked and is thoroughly vaccinated, flead and wormed. I've noticed he nibbles the area from time to time. The skin is clean and healthy and there are no signs of infection. Any ideas as to what could be causing him to nibble away at his tail and any advice on how to prevent him doing this? Appreciate any help and advice anyone can offer. Take care all xx |

Neutering a male Weim
I have the same problem you do. I was told that the sooner you nueter him the less chance you'll have of him developing routine male things. Say for instance always marking territory. Mine actually marked his territory on my couch once. My Weim actually challenges me every now and again to see what he can get away with. I was told that having him nuetered might make him more submissive. |

Outdoor sports for a Weim??
I don't know about actual dog sports but my Weim likes to bike ride with me. He is almost a year old so I still have to hold the lead but he loves it. Cars don't scare him and he rarely gets distracted by other dogs and people becuase he is focused on the task. Also, my weim loves football (soccer). We will kick the ball around and he'll chase it and even pick it up. So don't use a ball that you don't want teeth marks on. I'm in the UK at the moment so you can imagine the bike riding environment here. |

I have a Weimaraner that is about to be a year old. This is our first dog ever and we've trained him well for the most part. He does the usual, sit, shake, lay down and what not. He sits for his food and won't move until I tell him to eat. But when I take him for a walk, there is an open area I let him run around and do his own thing. But as soon as other people or dogs come around he loses his mind and pays no attention to anything I say. how can I change this habit? he has gotten better with his lead but not quite the way I'd like him to be. I keep him on a short lead and he doesn't pull but as soon as I give slack he inches ahead of me. Anyone else have a problem with the weim forgetting obedience once they get outside? |

My Nikkho wants to eat everthing on the ground when I take him out for walks. It doesn't matter if he eats before hand or not. Though I have heard its bad for them to get walked right after eating. I can't seem to stop him from eating trash but what he most likes is poop. Never his own, but other dogs'. It makes me so pissed that other people don't pick after their dogs. I just don't understand the behavior. I'm worried he will get sick or something.. Maybe its harmless. Anyone know about this and if its really a big deal or not??? I am really needing some feedback! |
