my weim died of bloat, he was checked by my vet just 1 hour before. the only thing i can say is that he was very quiet (even at the vets i remarked how quiet he was) vet checked him over and said he was doing really well. within the hour he started yelping and twisting around. rushed him to emergency vets and it was bloat, had to have him put to sleep there and then, (he was only 20 months old). It is a real kitchen table operation that needs immediate attention. trouble is once this has happened once it can happen again and is a very costly operation.(please make sure you are insured). always feed your weim 2 hours before exercise and try to make sure he doesnt bolt his food.

Subject :6 month old puppy keeps having accidents when he has been really good at going outside to toilet

I have a 6 month old weim puppy he can go for weeks & not have an accident on the carpet, there have been the odd day where he will sort of trickle wee accross the carpet. Whcih is not a good thing for me as I work from home as a childminder & care for babies which measn if he goes on the caroet I can not allowed the baby to crawl on the carpet after I have washed the carpet.
I do leave the back door open for him so that he can go out & he is walked regular too.

Any advice would be great

Does anybody know what it means - We noticed a couple of weeks ago that storm our 3 year old has got bald patches under his front and back legs and on his tummy where the skin colour is a lot lighter than the rest of him. It looks like he's got the opposite of a sun tan. He's fine and healthy otherwise and doesnt like or bother about it at all, it's just the look of it that worries me. :-S

It's trial and error really, we had our pooch from 6 months and we tried changing food, feed times, walkig time etc.
He's now 3 years old and we got it sorted or he grew out of it :-3.
Storm has two walks a day and we feed him about 1/2 - 1 hour after. The best thing we did to help is to have his food and drink bowl lifted off the floor so that he doesn't have to stress down to the floor, I read somewhere that this helps with there intigestion.
Good Luck

Hi there
I am posting to ask for some advice about our neighbour's weimaraner.
They bought her a few months ago and she is young though very big. They have a small flat with a small city garden. They clearly love their dog, and she has an hour long walk both morning and evening; at night she is taken into the flat to sleep.

My worry is that all day long. most days she is kenneled in their garden. I can hear her howling, whining and barking all day. She is left for hours in this way, and I am worried about her mental health.

I have talked to the neighbours about it, but they sort of poopooed my concerns.

Is this an ok way for a weimaraner to be kept?
Thanks!

Hi I am very lucky with my 10mnt old Lilly. We decided to leave her roam free downstairs while we are away but needed to do few safety changes and training. We left her day by day for longer and now she knows we are always come back to her Now she just sits and wait while we are leaving in the morning. We are also leaving treats and toys for her so she won't get bored much. She is really good

hi there,

i read in a weimy book it's best to wait half an hour (at least) after feeding to go for walks and to wait a half hour after walks before feeding. this gives them time to digest food before the walk/cool down after the walk. it may not make much difference with the wind though... mine let's loose no matter what she's fed, when she's fed or when she's walked. the joy of pups :D

oh and p.s. you'll form a bond no matter what age the pup is. a couple of weeks wih you, being fed, watered, cuddled and trained and he'll be your best pal

hi there,

i got my lass at 8 weeks and she's been a joy to train (though a thrawn little devil at times) neighbours of mine had a male who was fine when instructed by the husband but a nightmare for the wife.

you should see both pups and get to know them before you make the decision. get to know their personalities and how stubborn each is.

i would personally go for the 5 month old. despite living outdoors for most of his life, he will be at an age where he's willing to learn and will probably be grateful for the human interaction. remember to be firm and make sure he knows who's boss and do regular, commited training and show him plenty of love.

They're the best animals in the world, amazing pets and company. i'd be lost without freya and you'll soon feel the same. :D

I am about to purchase a weimaraner. I would love your advice. I have the choice of purchasing a 5 month old weimaraner who is absolutely gorgeous and has a perfect phsyical appearance but I worry about purchasing a dog that old. He has not starting house training and he has lived outside since he was 5 weeks. My other choice is a 7 week old weimaraner but I'm not happy about his parent's physical attributes. The puppy is cute but aren't they all?! I'm told you should start training a weimaraner very young. Would a 5 month old weimaraner be harder to train and would I have more of a bond with a dog if I raised it from a puppy? I have experience with dogs and with training but not with weimaraners. What would you reccomend? They are both males.
I have attached a picture of the 5 month old and of the puppy.

hey my weimeraner is 4 mnths old and still is teething!!! plenty of things to keep occupied is the key!! at that age and for a while to come they are still babies!! he does occasionally want to chew on my hand but the firm "no" or squeal does the trick!! hes started chewing on chairs now but ive gone around and moved everything out of his way and made sure he has plenty of chews and plenty to do and also i tire him out with hrs walks and play time!! all of it combined gives you a happy healthy/non destructive puppy!!!! AT THE MOMENT!! im touching wood!! if that didnt work then i would consider getting help elsewere 8)

hi!! im very lucky in this area as my 4mnth old has been brilliant with seperation anxiety...when i first got him i decided not to crate him.he sleeps downstairs on his own,he did start to cry howl etc.what i did was use the word "sleep" as a command for "im going wont be long" i started this by sitting in his basket with him untill he settled then giving him a treat and using the word "sleep" it took about a week or two for him to get the idea...but it did work. I aslo use it for when im goin out although i no longer need to sit in his basket!!! he now knows the word "sleep" is to go to his bed and that i will be returning soon.. so im guessin its a comfort thing!!! i hope this helps!! ^_^

hi there,

our little girl freya must be the exception to the rule. she spent the whole car journey home (about 7 hours) snoozing on my lap, wolfed down her dinner and some treats and then when we got back she spent ages getting to know her new home, having hyper play moments and then literally falling asleep mid play.

your wee one will settle in just fine, all she needs is to get to know the new environment and lots of affection so that she knows she's safe and loved. give her a couple of months and she'll be full of energy and there'll be no stopping her :-D

My boy is now 7 years old and he still has seperation anxiety unfortunately, this is very common with the breed - although I must say it's only now when he's say left down stairs and I go upstairs he wines and normally it's only when I leave him (I'm the pack leader!) other people can be with him so he's not alone but he pines for me. I remember as a puppy when we first brought him home and the breeder said you have to be firm if his place is downstairs at night that's where he goes and under no circumstance do you go down and give in to him - it took five days before he excepted that was his place and to this day he knows that room is his bedroom - I never crated him, we had a crate but never closed the door because again the breed doesn't like to be enclosed. What someone advised me to do was get a Kong - and we either stuff it or spread low fat cream cheese around it and freeze it (anything) - this is something we've done from when he was 5 months old and to this day when he goes out to do his business he comes back him and waits by the Freezer for his Kong as soon as you open the door he runs into his bed knowing he's going to get his treat and is that occupied he doesn't realise you've left - worth a try.... you must be strong never give into them they are a very clever breed - good luck ;)

Hi all,
wonder if any of you have any advice you can give me?
My boy is 9 yrs old and is recently having alot of trouble with his paws.
The back yard is generally mud and if i'm honest i'm lazy when it comes to cleaning up his mess.
Not sure if it is no starting to cause him problems.
ALso he's trumping like a trooper.
Anyone else had these problems?
is it just his diet?
or might he of picked up some nasty bacterias from the yard?
hope you're all well.
Seasons Greetings.
