I'll take positive or negative answers WITHOUT GETTING MAD!?
I know a few people who have weimaraners. Some people are completely in love with their dog, and happy with that breed choice, and some people didn't know what they were thinking when they got that dog. I think the most important thing with this breed is to make sure it gets LOTS of exercise!! My friend has two, and the dogs are nut cases because they never leave the house! They have a tiny backyard, and never go for walks. The dogs go crazy with frustration and chew everything up, and bark constantly. But my mom's friend has one and she thinks it is absolutely the best breed for her. But she also takes long walks with her dog every day. If you have done the research, and are up for a very energetic dog, I think a weim is right for you. And I have heard great things about Royal Canin, so I would stick with that choice. You are going to hear a lot of things about a lot of different foods, but I know Royal Canin is a good food. Good Luck with your dog! I'm glad your parents are letting you get a dog!! |

I'll take positive or negative answers WITHOUT GETTING MAD!?
My mom is finally letting me get a puppy this year ( I'm 11). She is going to have everyone help out with the puppy but I am going to be the owner. I was planning on getting a Weimaraner. I've done research about the breed but does anyone have experience with them? If so, would you recommend that they be in a house with regularly visiting children 3 and 5? They are very active children and enjoy playing outside with our 1 1/2 year old altered female American White Shepherd who is VERY friendly towards all living things except for small and furries. Lol. If you have a Weimaraner or know someone with one, what brand and type of food do they feed it and are they happy with the results? I was thinking of getting Royal Canin. Is this food any good?
I am also open to other breed suggestions and food suggestions. We have a large house that the dogs would live in with a 1-2 acre yard and a little dog agility set. Lol. We may move to a house with even more space and a pool with near 2-3 acres. |

Bathing dogs more than once a month is not good for them. It may increase oil production and then you have an oily smelly dirty dog. If you have an outdoor dog then you have to expect to have a dirty dog. I just rinse the dogs feet off with water. I put plain water in a big drink cup from a fast food place. I put the dogs foot in and massage away the mud. Then I rinse with clean water the same way. Dry with a towel. Cody knows the command 'paws'. she does not like it, but she obeys otherwise she does not come in the house. Also, brushing with a soft brush will remove a lot of dirt. If you train the dog now, he will love the attention. |

Aww lol he's adorable. Since he's a really active dog, you can feed him a little more than the bag suggests, I do that with my dog. Just make sure that if he starts to gain more weight than he should to either give him more exercise or cut down on the food a bit. I would say bathe him once a week at the most, too much could probably dry out his skin. |

Weimaraner puppy?!?
I just bought the most loving and adorable weimaraner puppy ever! He's the greatest. I had a few questions though...I was hoping someone would know just about how much food to feed him. I've been following the amount suggested on the bag but I honestly dont feel it's enough. He is 9 weeks old and a very active dog, we're out walking or playing with his doggy friends next door out in the yard during most of the day. I was also hoping someone knows about how many times a week is it safe to give him a bath? Since he's outdoors with us a lot he tends to get a little muddy but i'm afraid to bathe him too much. Thanks so much for any comments or help on our new addition to our family! You can see his picture here

Read the food bag! It will tell you by weight of your dog how much to feed. THEN... if you're not feeding large breed puppy feed, change to it... AND... add a small third meal in the middle of the day between the other two feedings as this is the dog's fast growing time.
Unless I'm mistaken, a weimeraner is a large breed dog... |

depends on the quality of the food...
lower quality means you need to feed more - better quality you feed less (less poops too)
so without knowing what food you are feeding its impossible to know how much you should be feeding your dog...
hint: if the food was from grocery or Wal Mart - its low quality
if the food contains "by-Products"- its low quality
if you see alot of commercials for the food - its low quality |

unfortunately hunting breeds can be the most difficult to live with... they are high energy and want to be on the move...locking a puppy in the bathroom for the entire day only stresses them out.they get bored and destructive...
are you in an apartment?
your best bet also would have been to get 1 pup..not 2... raise the one and if you want another then look at getting a friend...one puppy is hard enough..2 will drive you insane
perhaps consider a doggy daycare...at this point it really is your only option...those pups need stimulation |

Crying puppies help!!???
Welcome to life with puppies. Remember these little ones have just lost everything they ever knew. Their mother, breeder and littermates all in one go.
It may take a few days for them to settle it may take a few weeks. They will need to potty during the night for a long time yet. A few months at least so you will have to get used to getting up in the night. It averages 1 hour for one month of life they can go without pottying.
They will train better if you crate train them rather than just leaving them in a room on their own.
I have raised 2 pups together, but it's not easy. If you are away a lot it's going to be tough. |

When you put them to bed just let them whine. If you go in there it will just show them that they can win and will keep whining until you come. One thing that may help is wear an old t-shirt and put it in their bed with them. Your smell should help comfort them. I have also heard that having a wind up clock in their will help them too. It is similar to their mother's heartbeat. Just let them whine and they will stop soon. |

When I have a pup that cries, I put a small clock in with the pup, so that the pup listens to the tick tock tick tock. For some reason, the ticking seems to make the pups feel more secure, safe, and they don't cry. The more you get up for the pups, the more they will continue to cry. Just don't get up with them at night, leave a clock in there, and your pups should start to sleep all night. |

Try putting a wind up clock in the bathroom with them. The tick tick tick seems to calm puppies as it simulates the mother's heartbeat. |

maybe they are missing there mum. you need to put a hot water bottle and a clock near them so the clock is like their mothers heartbeat, and the bottle is their mothers warmth. they may have been taken away from their mother too early, its illegal to do that I think, so you may want to make sure that isn't the case, but if they HAVE taken the puppies away to early it might be a good idea to call the police. give them my love, and hope this helps! |

If you dont have time to devote to an animal, why would you get them in the first place?! You can NOT expect to lock something that needs human interaction in a confined place and have them not cry! My best advice to you would be that if you dont have the time or energy take them back and ask for a refund, if your lucky you may just get it. Nonetheless, get these dogs a new home with someone who has the time and patience to invest. If you decide to actually step up and care for them the right way, dont bother locking them in anywhere. If you train them correctly you will have dogs that dont chew or have anxitey problems. Good luck and do whats best for the dogs. |

puppies whine that is what they do...you can try putting a ticking clock rapped in a blanket, it soothes some puppies.
also with the tinkle problem..they bladders are not fully up and going so when they get excited, or upset, or they run..or if a puppy moves in general they can tinkle a lil...other than that...what you can do is sleep with them...that always worked for me...but the one flaw with that is once you start..they will always sleep with you...so it is up to you.
good luck |

Sounds like typical puppies....My pup did this the first couple of weeks and then calmed down quite a bit. Besides placing a shirt of mine in the pin with my pup, i give her toys to chew on (that are safe for pups like kongs), and a water dish in her crate. When i leave the house i leave the radio on or tv so they can hear noise to help with seperation anxiety. All you can do now is just wait it out...they will learn don't worry. Good luck! |
