i know mutts are unpredictable but generally speaking...

im getting it at 5 months old... is that too old to get a dog will i be able to still teach it??

how much exercise do i need to give it daily??

how well do most boxer/labs do off leash. cuss both breeds are very affectionate, i know mutts can be unpredictable but generally speaking

about how big is it at 5 months?

how well does it do inside a medium sized home

i have a park across the street with a lake, i would like to let them go swimming sometimes are they good swimmers?? humans arent allowed to go swimming there so it would swim alone tho

i know boxers dont really shed but what about labs?

in your opinion which dog would you prefer BOXADOR or WEIMARANER.... those are my two choices, which one is calmer and more of a couch potato cuss i would like to watch some tv with my dog sometimes without it going crazy.....(those are my two dog options)

any other tips would be greatly appreciated ty

No 5 months is not too old. He'll learn fine as long as you're consistent with your training, you are calm and assertive, and you have fun doing it!

He will need at least a 1 hour long walk every morning and could use either another walk in the evening or just play a nice controlled game of fetch. Keep up with the training!

If you stay consistent with your training, teach him the recall command he will do fine off leash. Also, socialize him. I recommend puppy obedience classes and doggy daycare.

Hard to tell with a mix breed but my guess is around 30 or 40 pounds..

It will do fine in any size home as long as you stick with the exercise!!

Why aren't humans allowed to swim? I wouldn't let him swim anywhere that I'm not allowed. Is it unsafe water? However, I've noticed that water is hit or miss with dogs. They either love it or they hate it!

Can't help you with the shedding. I assume all dogs shed.

Both dogs are high energy. Weimarner is a little less energetic. But again, if it has enough exercise it will lay at your feet while you're watching t.v.

Good luck and remember, exercise, discipline, then affection! In that order! Remember, discipline is not punishment. The dog must have, learn, and follow rules, boundaries and limitations!

Boxers have a 5 year lifespan, and labradors have about 10-12 years, so you'll be looking at your dog's lifespan being somewhere in between those two.

Yes, yours will probably shed. Labs shed like crazy. Any dog can be taught, but the earlier you start, the more raport you'll have with your dog. Do basic obedience so you know you can trust your dog off leash. Don't do any off leash at the park until you KNOW for sure you can stop your dog immediately, even if he's in a dead run after another dog.

i know mutts are unpredictable but generally speaking...

>>No, it's not too old. It is a good age to start.

how much exercise do i need to give it daily??
>>Enough to tire him out.

how well do most boxer/labs do off leash. cuss both breeds are very affectionate, i know mutts can be unpredictable but generally speaking
>>That's not a function of breed, it's a function of how much time and effort you spend on training the dog.

about how big is it at 5 months?
>>No way to be sure.

how well does it do inside a medium sized home
>>Again, depends on how much time and effort you spend on training the dog.

i have a park across the street with a lake, i would like to let them go swimming sometimes are they good swimmers?? humans arent allowed to go swimming there so it would swim alone tho
>>Labradors are terrific swimmers; boxers, not so much. Most dogs can swim, unless their legs are too short to stroke and their bodies too bone-heavy to float. You'll have to experiment.

i know boxers dont really shed but what about labs?
>>Boxers shed; it's just that the hair is short. Boxers don't have an undercoat: they get cold easily. Labradors have an undercoat; snow that falls on them doesn't melt. When they shed that undercoat, the house will look like a fur factory unless you brush him daily during that shed.

in your opinion which dog would you prefer BOXADOR or WEIMARANER.... those are my two choices, which one is calmer and more of a couch potato cuss i would like to watch some tv with my dog sometimes without it going crazy.....(those are my two dog options)
>>I'd prefer the Weimaraner; there's less guess work involved in raising a purebred. In re the couch potato thing... either will be happy to spend time on the couch with you if you gave the dog enough exercise, and for either breed (as an adult) it would be an hour swimming or several miles running beside you or your bike

any other tips would be greatly appreciated ty
>>More exercise is always better, minding the dog's physical capabilities.
>>Mental work counts as exercise; train tricks as well as obedience behaviors.
>>Obedience school is a must.

The dogs general disposition will really have no effect on the dog itself. It's all in how YOU raise it, and teach it. 5 months is not too old. Labs can shed a bit, but Boxers have a very smooth coat that don't shed much.
Every dog should get at least a mile walk everyday.
Never take your dog off a leash in public, until it has been properly trained. And even then, do so with caution.
Both the Boxador and Weimeraner are high energy breeds, Neither are going to really want to sit and be a lap dog, especially as puppies, perhaps as they get older and calmer, but not as puppies.
I prefer the Boxador to the Weimeraner, they are too high strung and nervous.

im getting it at 5 months old... is that too old to get a dog will i be able to still teach it??

1) Dogs (like people) can learn at any age. If this dog has been housed with littermates- all this TIME, it will have become very doggie & will not bond to YOU, very well. If it has lived alone with somebody who can no longer keep it, then that should be okay. BTW, the pup will still be in the throes of loosing puppy teeth & teething.

how much exercise do i need to give it daily??
2) Two brisk 40 minutes walks, to start or three 30 min ones per day. If it likes to retrieve, this can also be done, but Boxers don't tend to be retrievers.

how well do most boxer/labs do off leash?
3) Don't allow any dog offl-eash in a street area OR unless you can call it off (in pursuit of) a cat, squirrel, bird or another dog. Many dogs have a strong prey or chase drive which can get them killed or hurt, if you don't have COMPLETE control.

about how big is it at 5 months?
4) It's a MIX of 2 breeds & who knows what quality or size the parents were? (Not me!)
*WHY haven't you SEEN the dog under consideration?
*Why haven't you seen: vet records, the temperament, whether it retrieves, or if it is even friendly... to you???

how well does it do inside a medium sized home
5) No Crystal Ball here..., let's ASK it. Most active breeds run or trot indoors, much of the time.

i have a park across the street with a lake, i would like to let them go swimming sometimes are they good swimmers??

6) It is a MIX of 2 breeds; one's a water dog, one isn't.

Humans arent allowed to go swimming there.

7) Water marked as off-limits for humans, may be marked as such, due to: disease, PCB chemicals, etc. even high levels of samonella or giardia (which can make a dog SICK). Don't assume the water is ok for the dog, if you aren't allowed in it.

i know boxers dont really shed but what about labs?

8) Its frightening what you don't KNOW, but THINK you do.... Boxers most certainly DO SHED!

in your opinion which dog would you prefer BOXADOR or WEIMARANER.... (those are my two dog options)
9)WHY are these your ONLY options?

9a) What difference does it make what anybody thinks? You've ANNOUNCED you're getting a "Boxador". A dog you haven't seen don't know what size it is, have related nothing about health, temperament, shots, how it was raised, socialized, etc. What's right for me, isn't nec. good for you. I prefer you make mistakes w/ the mix.

Also if u have some ideas for names. dont give me a list of the top 100 dog names I want something more original was thinking of Alpha.
10)This will get shortened to Alphie, Alf, or Al if you have to quickly STOP the dog from a behavior or call him back from a car, etc.- Do you still like the short nickname versions?

11) Names are difficult to suggest, w/o knowing: color, markings, temperament. For TRAINING, the best names are one or two syllables, and end in Y or IE.
