My dad has a female Weimaraner. I do not live with him but I want one. He is planning on breeding his and giving me one of his pups. I live with my mom and she said I can have one, I just have to find out what the expenses are going to be. Like how much are the shots that you have to pay for them and what not. I plan on getting a rather large cage that my dog will stay in outside and I will take him (I want a male) walking everyday. I don't have a dog house but I plan on buying the wood and making it myself. I was just wondering if the shots and other medical things that are NECESSARY are expensive. Thanks for any help. |

This link gives you an idea of the costs involved with owning 1 dog.
Approximate Annual Dog Care Costs
Costs vary depending on charges by individual veterinarians. Costs do not include any initial adoption fee or purchase cost for the animal. Assuming the average lifespan of a dog is ten years, the estimated cost of owning a dog for its lifetime is over $8300.
Year 1 Ea Succeeding Year
Food $400 $400
Distemper/Parvo $60 $15
Rabies Shots $20 $5
Worming $25 $10
Spay / Neuter $55
Heartworm $50 $50
License $10 $10
Accessories $100 $75
Emergency Vet $250 $250
Total $970 $818
Remember everything will only cost more every year & food & vet care are not areas to skimp on for your dog's health. |

All i can tell you is they are expensive!! Vet bills cost more than a regular family doctor in some cases so be prepared if you are not than don't put that animal through any unnecessary dangers. You need shots , food, grooming, walks excesses, and if a situation arises you better have the money for vet bills, they are not cheap
You wanted to know , now you know.
Good Luck in making your decision. |

You need to find a vet in your area that you and your mother will have complete confidence in. Just start calling vets and ask around about how much puppy vaccinations, fecal, blood work, heart worm preventative, yearly vaccinations. Also you will need to do a little bet more research into that breed. They are a sports dog and need A-LOT more exercise than just a walk everyday. You will also need to be sure that this future pet of yours gets good dog food and a lot of it. Also you need to consider getting flea/tick preventative and if you want a good quality one you will need to get that from your vet or a prescription from your vet (if they will write one) because some won't. |

Ask your dad about Weims and he can tell you that they are very active and people oriented. Keeping one in a cage all day will drive it crazy. It will become mean and nasty. No dog should be caged all day, especially a high energy, large dog. All dogs are very expensive. Shots, fixing, food, illness. Again, ask your father, not us, as he has the dog and he can tell you what's expected in expenses. But I'm telling you, do both yourself and the dog a favor and don't get one unless it can live inside with you and have people contact frequently. |
