My 10 mo. old Weimaraner marks alot. He has this OCD thing there he has to lift each left twice taking turns at each leg on everything. We just adopted him Monday. My male terrier is neutered and they seem to get along, thus far. I wouldn't object to breeding my Weimaraner (He is an encyclopedia type model of the breed standard). But, if he has to be 2 years old or older to stud to a female Weim, he has a long way to go and I do not know if I can deal with all this peeing.

He does it indoors also.

Neutering in a dog that ALREADY marks will NOT stop them from marking, period. You need to take an obedience or training class with your dog and make sure he understands, without a doubt, that YOU are the boss of the household and only YOU have the right to mark. What has worked for me: When he marks, scold him and mark over his, with a spritz of your perfume or body spray. Keep belly bands on him when you can not supervise. Allocate him a space in the yard that is "his" where he can mark. You may never brea the habit completely. It has NOTHING to do with house training, and everything to do with dominance.

The best way to stop this is to get him neutered.

Unless he is an outstanding breed example, has had all necessary health screening, hip scoring, etc., at great cost to you, then he should not be used for breeding. Dogs should only be bred to improve the breed and not to make money.

This is the same dog you just asked about regarding temperament and a hyperactive child ? See previous Q.

I have also included a link regarding stud dogs.

Having him neutered will help with the marking.

Just because he may conform to breed standard, doesn't mean he should be bred. You'll have to have legitimate KC papers, OFA his hips & elbows & test for vWB & thyroid disease.

Weims are also high on the list for risk of bloat or GDV, so this would be good reading also:

Just because he looks like the breed standard doesn't mean you should breed him! And from your other questions it doesn't sound as if you know a whole lot about this breed!
Have him neutered.
Their are a lot of health benefits.
And you won't contribute to the dog over population. Their are 20 million dogs in shelters each year.
So please get him neutered.

Neutering usually takes care of the marking problem. It also has health benefits and helps reduce the gross pet overpopulation problem.
