Subject :I just got a weimaraner he's 8 weeks old I was wondering how often should I feed him and what type of food?
I cook "doggie stew" in a large rice cooker: 1/3 lean meat, 1/3 brown rice, 1/3 non-starch vegetables of the season such as chicken/rice/green beans. I put the food in a large food processor so when I am done it is like canned dog food-- only fresh and free of chemicals, fillers, and preservatives. I also add Vitamin E, and fish oil, and crushed calcium to the mix. When they finish eating I give them a large milk bone for their teeth after both meals and one milk bone at night before bedtime.
I love my Weimaraners. They are 12 years old and they have extra good numbers on their annual blood panels the vet does for them. |

A two-month old puppy should be getting fed AT LEAST 3 times a day and preferably four.
breakfast - lunch - dinner - bedtime
Weims tend to have sensitive stomachs, also they are are prone to food allergies and bloat so do not feed anything with a lot of empty fillers (corn or wheat) Unfortunately this means essentially most dog foods from the grocery store.
What was your breeder feeding?
I would suggest Canidae (All Life Stages) it is a quality food at a reasonable price range. No corn, no wheat, all human-grade ingredients from US suppliers. It has the additional advantage of not having to switch from puppy to adult food, you simply determine the amount you feed by the dog's weight and age (there's a chart on the side of the bag) The chart gives the recommended daily amount; divide it by number of feedings to determine the amount in each feeding. As your pup grows weigh him often to determine increasing amounts. Within another month or so (as soon as he is sleeping well through the night) you can go to 3 daily feedings, at 6 months phase it down to morning and evening. Weims should never be fed just once a day; due to the bloat thing; better several small meals than one large one. Also make sure he rests for AT LEAST half an hour after each meal. This is FOR LIFE, not just through his puppyhood.

There is a store locator on the left side of the page. When feeding something like Canidae which has no empty fillers, you feed less, so the price works out about the same, but the bonus is he will poop less (and believe me, weims poop a LOT) |

I have a weim, she's a girl and she's two now but I remember when I first got her she was just as young. I started off with feeding her canned dog food mixed with dry baby cereal and hot water. (since they are a bit too young for hard kibbles) She seemed to really love it, the dry baby cereal came in a box and looked like dry mashed potato mix, its was really soft and made out of corn, I think.
I fed her this twice a day, evening and morning, about a cup but if you just got him don't force feed him since he's young and probably scared and just getting used to your house. They need A LOT of love since they are very affectionate dogs so make sure you do that 
When she was about a month/ a month and a half I started feeding her dry dog food, the Pedigree for puppies mixed with wet canned food and water. Still to this day do I feed her half dry food, half wet food as they don't always like to eat JUST dry food.

I fed my dog when she was a pup a medium meal twice a day. I have a Weimaraner named Zoey!!!!!! I also fed her IAMS puppy chow. She LOVED it!!!!!!!! I still feed my weim IAMS. It is the best for my dog because it makes her happy! Remember: once you get your dog attached to a certain brand of dog food, don't switch to a different one! My dog wouldn't eat it and when she did, she got stomach aches and threw up! |

When i first got my Weim Hope i fed her the large breed dog chow. and i fed her about 2 to 3 times a day. since then i found out that Hope has allergies, and she has had two intestinal infections, with the help of my vet she is set up now. i have been feeding her the science diet lamb and rice for about 4 to 5 months now, she likes it a lot. Congrats on your new addition he is sure to make your life interesting and fun. Make sure you take him for regular check ups, and if you start to notice anything fishy in the way he is acting take him to the vet. Weims make great pets. Good Luck. |

Feed him a high quality food 3x a day, and graduate to 2x/ day around 6 mos. of age.
Good brands:
Wellness
Innova
Canidae
CostCo's brand- "Kirkland"- if you need to save money.
Foods like Iams and Pedigree may cost less, but you feed more, because there is more "filler" in it- like corn and wheat. |
