i have a 3 year old weimaraner that seems to be allergic to all sorts of foods. she used to get terrible rashes and lose her hair so i switched her to the nutro lamb and rice food and she fully recovered. i never feed her people food and rarely even give her dog treats, yet she has started losing her hair again. she doesn't itch too often and it doesn't seem to bother her, but i'd much rather have a dog with a full coat. i have a second weimaraner that is 1 1/2 and she is perfectly healthy and never had a rash or anything. anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do about my balding weim? |

First of all, a vet check is in order. It could be something more than a food allergy. If it's the food, it could be glutens and nutro contains glutens. I would switch to a food that has no wheat, corn, soy or glutens. It could make all the difference. |

you need to go to your breeders house,, get all the info you can ( if you did buy from a reputable breeder) the breeder needs to know these things and they may be able to help you |

You might need to switch to a prescription allergy food. Also, when doing allergy food you cannot give treats. You can give the food she is eating as treats but anything, even one treat, can start off an allergic reaction.
You should also look into allergy testing. It can determine exactly what she is allergic to and also an allergy serum can be made for shots. Allergy injections are usually very helpful and you can also learn to give them to her yourself at home. |

have you had the dog to the vet. to see if it is allergies for sure? it may not be allergies it could be another condition like Demodex mange. it is not contagious to other dogs and is caused by mites that live in the hair follicles. all dogs have this mite and normally their immune system fights off the bites from the mite. dogs that show hair lose have a low immune system and cannot fight the bites.
i would take the dog to the vet. and get a skin scraping to determine for sure. the low immunity is genetic and dogs with it should not be bred. it can be easily treated with medication. |

I really think you should have the dog checked over by the vet. The vet should run some blood tests and may also do some skin scrapings to see if this has anything to do with some sort of infection.
Wellness makes an 2 allergy formula dog foods. You can take a look at their foods. Wellness is good dog food. |

What does your vet say? Have you had her checked to make sure it isn't a hormone problem? Have they done skin scrapings for mange mites? Have you seen an allergist ? |

honestly I would consider a raw diet, no preservatives at all, diet is often the way to help a dog, especially if allergies are involved. |
