I have a pedigree weimaraner and never feed him scraps and have him on a recommended died of pellets from the vet - yet he still suffers from serious flatulence? Any suggestions welcome? |

Gas-x.
Also next time he farts, run up to his behind and get a good whiff. It clears the sinuses. |

Tell the vet. The diet you have him on is apparently upsetting his stomach, even though it is Vet recommended. I'm sure it's a simple thing of changing his diet again. |

Have you tried the product Beano yet? Ask your vet before using since it for humans. Also his diet could be the cause, consult the vet for a different food recommendation. |

While I agree with many of the people who have mentioned that this could be due to his diet in one way or another, I have some other ideas as well. I also have a weimaraner and she, too, is gassy a lot. Maybe it's a breed thing. I am curious as to why you say your dog is "suffering" from flatulence. How do you know he is suffering? Does he seem to be in pain? My dog farts all the time and it often seems to surprise her, the sound usually spooks her and she looks for its source... she apparently doesn't feel it happen(??)! I don't know the ins and outs of dog GI systems, but it may be that you are actually the one suffering from the gas, not your dog.
It would certainly be worth a shot to try some different food. We feed our weimy California Naturals lamb and rice formula. It helps keep her coat nice and her skin moisturized. Anyway, good luck whatever you end up doing, and I hope you can get at least some relief from stinky dog farts soon!! |

Its the pellets the vet recommended. The majority of times veterinarians recommend foods because they get paid to do so. Science diet, Iams, etc. They endorse the foods, stock their shelves and get a percentage of what is sold.
Switch your dogs food (over a period of 6 days. 70% of old food 30% of new food for 2 days.
50% of old food 50% of new food for 2 days.
30% of old food and 70% of new food for 2 days
100% of new food for the rest of the dog's life.
The new food should be all natural, no by products, no corn, barley or sorghum It's hard to digest which may be why your Weimie has gas - there is something in the food he can't digest.
The first ingrediant should be some kind of protein or protein meal (Meal is 5lbs of protein the boil down to 1 lb then grind into the dog food).
And no canned food. That not only causes runny stool and gas but decayed teeth. It gets caught in between the teeth
Good Luck |

It is possible he has a pinched nerve...I know when my back is out...it effects me that way. Also...try him on Paul Newman's organic dog food...our dog had serious chemical allergies...maybe it would be helpful for your dog too...it totally changed the quality of life for our dog...Good luck. |

you can get tablets off vet for it or give him charcoal biscuits to soak up the odour in his gut(this works) |

PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PRODUCTS MEANT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION! If you go to the pet store, they have all kinds of things you can use for this, and many other unusual happenings. They have gas supplements just for your baby. Good luck with this. |

look at your dogs food is it high in ash? this is a common cause of gas in dogs as well as urinary tract infections also does he /she drink water fast? this is also a big cause of gas i also reccomend placing the dogs dish higher up when he she eats ie at face level or slightly below this helps the animal to digest the food easier producing less gas good luck |

I agree with the first person...it's dietary. Finding the perfect food balance can take some patience. If the pellets you are feeding him are too high in crude protien and fat, that can do it. If it is a puppy, that's something a lot of puppies just do as their systems mature. Our favorite dog food for our "tootie" dog is Diamond. It is inexpensive, but a very good food. It's inexpensive b/c they don't advertise. It's the only thing we could give our boxer to keep her from "sputtering" around the house all day! Good luck! |

Your dog is probably allergic to, and/or otherwise intolerant of, one of the ingredients in the food.
Tell your vet and they may or may not perform an allergen test on your dog. Which will probably seriously piss your dog off, since it'll be a series of shots just under the skin, but it's probably worth it.
Some of the ingredients that commonly cause allergies or intolerance: Wheat or corn gluten, eggs, and milk. Just like us. Of course, in order to know for sure, he'll have to have the allergen test. Or maybe you can find a dog food free of all of these allergens, and try that for a couple weeks.
Weimariners sure are pretty and expensive dogs, so doesn't it just make sense that their food has to cost a fortune too? $$$$. Sorry but those are my two cents. |
