I took my 8 week old Weim outside and he squatted 5 or 6 times like he wanted to use the restroom - but nothing would come out. Then he went to defecate and it was a really thick yellow substance with a little blood mixed in. I know this sounds disgusting, but does anyone have a clue as to what this might be. He has an appointment this morning at his vet. We just got him three days ago and we did change his diet. Any suggestions?

Might be the change in his diet, but only your vet will know for sure. It would be a good idea to take a stool sample with you. Icky, I know, but it will greatly help your vet determine what, if anything, is wrong.

Your vet will do a parvo test. 10 min snap test easy my kids been doing them since she was 10 yrs old. It is still possible a change of diet or recently dewormed. I have had Nemex and strongid give that appearance. They will want to know how the pup is eating and drinking.

Weinmaraners have very sensitive stomachs and his probs are probably due to the change in diet. A friend of mine has a male and he couldn't gain weight for a long time because he had several stomach issues some due to change in diet others due to various bacterial infections. They are somehow prone to this kind of stuff. I'm glad you are taking him to the vet so that you can find out for sure.
Good Luck!

when you change a dogs food you are suposed to do it gradually over a week, by adding some of the new food to its usuall food add more of the new food each day and give less of the old food until you have the pup on the food you want it to be eating, if you dont do this then it messes up its digestive system. or it could be some kind of bacterial infection. get him checked out with the vet anyway. goodluck with him xx

Well, an abrupt diet chance will definitely cause digestive problems, as will environment changes. It's good that you're taking him to the vet however, to get a definitive diagnosis.

Good luck.

May be a urinary tract infection. Or a problem with his urinary tract. Did he come with a health guarantee? If not, you should have a few days to take him to a vet and have him checked out.

We have an 18 month old Weim. She is a pip. She will eat anything she can get inside her mouth, which has caused occasional bouts of constipation. When she shows signs of straining we add canned pumpkin to her diet for a few days. We read this was a safe treatment for constipation for dogs. She loves it, and it is good for her.

If you ever change her diet again, try to do it more gradually. A drastic change could definitly cause issues with irregular bowel movements. Your vet would be the perfect person to evaluate your pup and like others mentioned, also check for urinary tract infection.
