Subject :I would like to start supplementing my dogs diet with Omega 3's but what's the best way to do it?

I would like to start supplementing my dogs' Purina diet with Omega-3's. I was considering just giving them some canned fish daily but didn't know if this was a safe or less expensive alternative. I had thought about buying the oil and adding a bit of that and some yogurt to their food every day too but I am worried about the safety of supplements. They are not well regulated by the FDA so does anyone have any idea on the best method.
My dogs are 1.) a 1.5 yr old 85 lb Weimaraner and 2.) 6moz old 45 lb Olde English Bulldogge.

you might as well not bother supplementing with anything healthy as long as you keep feeding purina!

ok maybe it could do a little good, even though purina is reversing any of the good efforts. get a human quality salmon oil, or just give canned mackerel, can sardines or can salmon (all packed in water only)

Yogurt doesnt have enough probiotics in that little amount to be beneficial to your dogs. just buy human quality acidophilus.

yes the regulations are terrible. but look, you got contamination in peanutbutter cookies for humans in the news recently, causing deaths. there's a risk with everything.

Nupro is a good supplement for dogs also. (<a href="http://nuprosupplements.com">http://nuprosupplements.com</a> ) even though it's good quality, there's still a risk for anything, not excluding the purina.

Other than the obvious comment to get rid of the horrid Purina food in the first place (read the list of ingredients... ick!) Pets4Life have a really nice all round supplement that will be good to give. It is powdered and super convenient to use. As it is already premixed and formulated it will be balanced all the time. They have a high quality control and make small batches to ensure safety. It also contains digestive support which being on Purina will be a benefit to them as well.

I've been giving each of my dogs a salmon oil capsule every day for years. I started on a vet's advice and I simply buy capsules made for humans.
