By this I'm referring to a breed of dog that carries no other breed in it's background what-so-ever.
example: Doberman Pinscher derived from Black and Tan Manchester Terrier and the black English Greyhound, in order to improve the Doberman's appearance. It is generally accepted as fact that the two German breeds, which played a major role in the Doberman's ancestry were: the old German Shepherd, now extinct: and the German Pinscher - the ancestors of the Rottweiler and the Weimaraner.

No not if you ask it that way. All dogs come from the wolf. |

No a dog is bred with many different kinds of dogs until they get what they are looking for. Then when two dogs of the same bread are bred and pass all the tests they can be considerd pure-bred |

I have understood that the wolves are the purest breed of dog. Other than the wolf I have information on a breed that I adore and maybe this description explains my love for them and the answer to your question.
Description: The Greyhound is as swift as a ray of light and as graceful as a swallow. They are one of the oldest and purest known breeds. The Greyhound has been used on practically all kinds of small game, but the hare are their natural quarry. Normally a quiet dog, Greyhound like to curl up on their dog bed and be lazy for most of the day. |

Correct, a wolf is not a breed of dog, but it is from which dogs derive from. To find the first official "breed" you would have to locate the first wolf who was born with the genetic mutation that distinguish our modern day dogs to wolves. This breed would have been used as protection, and possibly as a food source when food was low, this was it's purpose. If you go with the evolution theory these dogs probably would have originated from Africa along with modern man. As man traveled around the world and his lifestyle changed, so did the dog and his purpose. They were bred for pulling, for companions, hunting, etc. I don't have the time to do the research on which breeds originate from Africa. If you are curious do a search and see what you come up with, and if you have time let me know. |
