I'm getting a Weimaraner puppy and I need to know the average cost of tail docking and where to get it done. |

You should not dock over five days of age.
Besides, Loki is right. The breeder does the docking, NOT you. |

If you are getting the puppy from a reputable breeder in a country where docking is still legal, the tail will be docked when the puppy is 3-5 days old. The tail should not be docked after that and if it was would require a general anaesthetic.

Should be already docked if not done when they are small it is a bad idea to do it. Not only that but unnecessary, I personally have a Rottweiler with a tail and will never ask to have my dogs tail docked or any Rott. i own in the future.
Have you ever heard the sounds dogs make after they do it?? It's horrible they scream as babies. The breeder will know this and if they haven't already had it done then don't buy from them they are not a proper breeder, and you are likely to get a dog with many problems.
It has been suggested that it causes back problems too by the way, You know that's just an extension of the spinal column. It's on you but don't have it done if the pup's already sorta big, that's just not right, just cause you want your dog to look like all of the wimers out there. Used to be tail docking did some sort of function for the dog. Rotts pulled carts so they didn't want them to be broken and infected. My dog is rotten and is lazy so her tail is where it should be! |

YOU don't get the tail docked. The breeder has it done when the puppies are 1-3 days old.
If the breeder didn't dock the tail (unusual, since any good breeder would have this done), by the time you get the puppy it will be too old for a simple dock. It will be considered surgery/amputation, and if you can find a vet who will actually remove a healthy tail from an older puppy, it will likely cost $150+ with anesthesia, etc. |

vet and it varies but make sure you go to a good vet if done wrong it can cause ifnection |
