If you see a weim puppy for 500 dollars...run. I've never heard of a reputable breeder selling their dogs for that little and in weimaraners in particular it's critical to buy from a reputable breeder.
A rough starting price point is going to be in the neighborhood of 1000 and I'm cautious of giving that figure. Within the weim community there are some people that compete (in show and/or field) and breed their dog under the direction of an experienced breeder who generally sell dogs at around that range. Caution should be exercised when considering those dogs and should ONLY be done under the guidance of an experienced person. Buying from one of the true breeders that work hard at campaigning their dogs will start around 1500 and is a much better way of assuring you get a quality dog if you are new to the breed. I wholeheartedly believe that a good weim is the best dog out there for people who fit their needs and appreciate their strong suits but a bad weim or with a person that isn't a good match can be the worst dog imaginable.
If you are in the US, go to the Weim Club of America, find the local chapter, and contact them. These groups are typically very close knit and extremely welcoming to responsible people interested in the breed and will give you the ins and outs as well as goods and bads about the breed and particular lines. |
