Subject :My 5-year-old Weimaraner is losing a serious amount of weight? Advice Needed?
My Weimaraner has been losing weight without explanation, she has been on the same diet, and nothing has changed as far as her daily routine. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Take a fecal to the vet and start there. If the fecal is clear you will need to take her to the vet for further testing, beginning with blood work. It may be just a easy solution as increasing her food content. |

Our German Shephard, while on Heartgard, lost about 10lbs and we took him in - sure enough, it was worms - he was treated and cured! Let the vet run a few tests (fecal and blood). |

Losing weight with no explanation is a sign of a health issue. You really need to take the dog to the vet, because even if you can get her to gain weight with more food, you could likely be just masking a problem. |

It's probrably worms. Do you or have you in the past had fleas in the house? Take a stool sample and see if there are any white wormlike things in it, take this to your vet to determine what kind of worms they are and which medicine will rid you of them. |

I would take her to the vet, at 5 yrs she should be gaining weight if anything because they start to calm down and not as hyper. Does she eat/drink like normal? Is the food you are feeding her anything special (diet, adult, over active) that might be effecting her weight? I have a 4.5 yr old weimie and i wish she could lose weight. Might want to think about having blood work done as well, maybe a throid issue going on. |

If nothing has changed, food intake, increased exercise, if it were my dog I'd take her for a vet check. It may just be that you need to increase the amount of food you feed, but you'll have the peace of mind that your dog isn't seriously ill. Good luck. |
