Subject :Why does my weimaraner's skin become so sore and red when she's excited?

I wonder if it has something to do with an increased amount of adrenaline secreted when she is excited. Her belly, inside her legs, inside her ears and her 'armpits' become red raw and it must irritate as she licks it and licks it until it's almost bleading. Even her bottom is affected. It seems to happen whenever someone comes round and she becomes excited. She has been on a dairy free diet for a month and hypoallergenic food for a month to see if that helped but it still happens. I cant bear to see her suffering like this.

Dogs do become more 'red' when excited but they dont become irritated from it. There are lots of things that cause irritation to skin in dogs - commonly, parasites, infection, allergies (food,dust,flea,contact etc), or - uncommonly, autoimmune, tumours, and the list goes on. A veterinarian will be able to look at her and take a few (often simple) samples that will give you the answer you require. More importantly they can start making her feel more comfortable again. Sue, I think you're on the right track. However, I don't find it likely that adrenaline would be perspired, but not impossible. It almost seems as though pores within the skin in the areas you mentioned are not opening to excrete moisture (sweat) when the dog becomes excited. These areas you describe are very common areas that dogs perspire, just as humans do. How old is the dog, what is the climate in your area? Any allergies that you are aware of? Normal stools and passage rates? Does the dog have a normal appetite?

Maybe your weimaraner is bored if they don't get plenty of exercise they they lick them self's excessively. Under their coat their skin is reddish. If it don't get better take her to the vet
