1: Biting
my weimaraner dog is only 8 weeks old, and shes biting my fingers alot when i play with her, its playful biting but it hurts and leaves marks...since she is only 8 weeks old could she be teething? i gave her a bone and toys to chew but she prefers my fingers... if she is teething when will she grow out of it cuss eventually its gonna get alot more painful.
2: Eating grass
theres no chemicals that go into my grass, so is it safe for her to eat grass?
3: Walking on a Leash
at the moment im using a regular chain colller, and yet shes still pulling... im thinking of getting a head halter when she gets bigger cuss then i wont have to keep buying one... or do the head halters adjust? which kind should i get for a weim? they weigh about 50-70 lbs when they are full age, right now she barely weighs 10 lbs (just guessing)
4: Training
I taught her sit !!! (only when i have food tho) i tried teaching her to come just to her name but that doesn't really work. she eventually comes following me when i whistle or clap while saying her name (MAYA) i tried teaching her how it shows on youtube with actual trainers, but Maya wont focus long enough, its a miracle i taught her sit... what should i teach her next after come, stay, sit, her name ???
5: Her Crate
im using crate training and thats working out well how she doesn't pee in her cage. the only problem is that she never wants to go in the cage i have to carry her in, and i tried desentizing her to it like throwing food around it and in it but nothing, i wont be able to carry her in for long. (the crate is big enough for her at full size, and it has a divider for her cuss shes a puppy)
6: HELP
any other tips would be great |

SHE'S A BABY
Please stop treating her like an adult.
1. It's a little early for teething; chances are she's still getting used to the puppy teeth. When you feel teeth, make a loud, high-pitched OW! sound and turn your back. She's been taken from her littermates and mom too young and is learning how hard to bite and when.
2. a little grass won't hurt her
3. Get that chain off her. SHE'S A BABY. All you need is a flat buckle collar. She has no idea what you want and she can't walk in a straight line, anyway, for long: there are so many things on the sides to explore. Just use your voice and an occasional tiny bit of a treat to convince her to keep the leash loose.
4. Just keep working on sit, come, watch me; I recommend Brian Kilcommons's book and DVD "My SmartPuppy" She hasn't learned them, and will forget if you stop.
5. Slide the crate into a cardboard box that is bigger than the crate. Wire crates leave dogs feeling vulnerable; they know they can't get out, but they don't know that something scary couldn't get them. If you give her an actual den to sleep in, she'll feel more safe. Also, keep the crate near the people in the house so she can hear your voices and know that she's not alone. When you have to leave her, turn a radio on to a talk station.

I'm not a dog expert, but anytime I have a question about my dog I visit www.petplace.com. I will send you a link about how to stop puppy behaviors and anything else you need to know about ( like crate training ) you can search at the top. Good luck! |

She will eventually get use to the crate, just show her its not a bad place to be by giving her treats and lots of praise when its time to let her out. As for the grass, every dog does that she may have a belly ache (check her for worms) its perfectly safe just as long as there's no bug spray. Puppy's attention span is very short at that age, try only doing two 5 min sessions a day, keep it exciting for her, she will get better as she gets alittle older, just keep with it don't give up!. And the biting, when she bites you some people say to screetch to let her know it hurts, I just say no bite and keep giving her a toy, try to match the toy up with the texture she keeps chewing on.. if she chews on some thing softer like your fingers try a toy that has about the same kind of feel. Good Luck. and remember DO NOT give up on the training, you will only regret it as she gets older if you do |

Luke,
This would be funny, if it wasn't so SAD. You were TOLD Weims aren't for Novice owners. You should never have taken her from her litter, before 8 weeks. But you DID these things, anyway. Now you want us to FIX your mistakes, and you don't LISTEN when given good advice, so WHY exactly... are you still ASKING?
1 Biting is normal, but something you will need to train her NOT to do. (Her littermates & mom would have worked on that, if given the chance.) It will take TIME to discourage & now YOU have to do it, vs her family! Dogs use their mouths, like we use out hands. |

hey my weimeraner is 4 mnths old and still is teething!!! plenty of things to keep occupied is the key!! at that age and for a while to come they are still babies!! he does occasionally want to chew on my hand but the firm "no" or squeal does the trick!! hes started chewing on chairs now but ive gone around and moved everything out of his way and made sure he has plenty of chews and plenty to do and also i tire him out with hrs walks and play time!! all of it combined gives you a happy healthy/non destructive puppy!!!! AT THE MOMENT!! im touching wood!! if that didnt work then i would consider getting help elsewere |
