-I live in Illinois Hot Summers Cold Winters

-there is not too much space to run around my house maybe in the basement (thats where i might keep it when it gets older) its furnished so dont think my basement is a scary dark cold place.

-i dont really have a yard cuss its open for all the neighbors and theres no fence. But there is a park right across the street with a open field and a nice jog/bike route

-how long could i keep the dog alone when im at school? as a puppy

-This is gonna be my first dog, so thats my biggest fear that i wont be able to train it.

-What are some names that you think would be good for that dog i was thinking of - Shadow but what are some of your suggestions

-how long would i have to exercise with him each day?

-How would i exercise with him during the winter cuss they have short fur??

-Plz and ty for all the answers

People who are not at the house for most of the waking day should not get puppies. Period, the end, finito. Breed doesn't matter.

So, no. You're not ready for a Weim puppy - or any puppy - until you are in a position where you don't have to be gone from the house for more than 3 hours at a stretch.

Weimaraners can easily become uncontrollable monsters when they are left alone as puppies.

If you still want a weim, get an adult.

Hi you just need to be sure your are ready to devote a lot of time, It takes a lot of work to train a dog. Don't rush into it, and know it will not always be fun.Make sure you are ready to clean up it's messes and do it frequently because letting it sit puts the dog at risk for worms.During Winter you can exercise your dog on a treadmill or get dog shoes and take it for a walk.I would say it would need at least a half hour of exercise a day.Make sure there is a fenced in area for it to go out and run.If you do not have a fence you will need to go out with your dog all the time to make sure it does not run away.A dog should not be in a kennel for more then 4 hours a day.Puppies need even more supervision because there bladders are weak so they need more potty breaks.

Names,Lyra for a girl and Delano for a boy.

good luck in making a decision.

I am going to be honest to you. Having a dog is kind of hard responsibility but also fun. I have a dog too. Dont think dogs are just to be taken care of, they can protect you, when you are sad and with tears in your eyes, they will console you and do what probably alot of people wont do for you which is help you get over it. They will never dump you or leave you. they will always welcome you with a happy face. While they are puupies, its kind of hard because they need to learn hoe to fo outside and not pee inside, and you'll have to clean it up, but once thy get little older they will learn. I promisse. You can leave him home while you are at school. Can you ask any of your family to take care of him while you are at school? If you cant then buy a cage where he will fit and put everything he needs in there such as water, some food and a blanket. If none of your family takes him out to pee or poop, then he will have to do his bussiness in there and the tough part is that you will have to clean it up when you are beck from school. But like I said when they get at lest 1 year old or even less, they will learn to go outside and not do it inside. When you are back you can take him to the park and take a walk and even play with him. Buy a ball that you can throw it and he will go get it. Remember to always bring a bag with you in case he desides to do his bussiness in the park. Anyways, that is all he needs, love and kindness to him. The name Shadow is beautifull for his color. Remember, when you have a dog, give him your heart and he'll give you his. i hope this tips helped you.

->im just worried i dont have the ability to make him/she happy

*I've noticed that. This is your 3rd or 4th post on the subject.

-I live in Illinois; Hot Summers, Cold Winters
-im 16 and the youngest in my house

*How are you going to afford to buy or adopt a Weim, & pay for toys, supplies, food vet care; including shots, worming, flea & heartworm?

-there is not too much space to run around my house maybe in the basement (thats where i might keep it when it gets older) its furnished so dont think my basement is a scary dark cold place.

*Weimaraners are PEOPLE dogs, they don't like to be kept AWAY from people. If left crated, it needs to be in a people area such as the kitchen or your bedroom (where your reassuring scent is strongest).

-i dont really have a yard cuss its open for all the neighbors and theres no fence. But there is a park right across the street with a open field and a nice jog/bike route

*An unfenced yard (not even a dog run; 10 x 10 to bathroom in) means the dog will have to be on leash at all times to prevent an accident & you will have to be dressed to go outside. I don't understand having an open yard for the neighbors. Weims are protective, I don't recommend having an unfenced yard. Weims have high prey/chase drive, again I don't recommend an invisible fence or no fence.

-how long could i keep the dog alone when im at school? as a puppy

*The rule is: a puppy can only be left for the amount in hours it is months old. 2 months old = 2 hours left crated or the max to be left w/o a bathroom break. Or you can leave him in in an outdoor run. You choose to adopt an adult, housebroken, crate-trained Weim.

-This is gonna be my first dog, so thats my biggest fear that i wont be able to train it.
*Do you have any previous experience? Have you looked in dog obedience classes? Most puppies cannot be trained (even by a professional) in the 3 months you have off from school. What happens after that? When you turn 18 & graduate, what happens when you go to college (who will keep your dog) or what happens if you get a job?

-What are some names that you think would be good for that dog i was thinking of - Shadow but what are some of your suggestions

*Names need to be one or 2 syllables and names ending in "Y" or "IE" are best, for commands. Short names are like: Ace, Jack, Jake, Pal, Max, Flint, Stone. Names ending in Y: Buddy, Lucky, Rainy, Stormy, Smokey, Dusty. 2 syllables not not ending in Y, yet good for commands: Mica, Major, Buster, Gunner.%0

ok i'm sorry but if i were to be getting a puppy id make sure i atleast had a yard so he can piss and walk on the grass!! jeez..

i dont think it would be healthy for a puppy or a dog to be living in a room most of its life, they arent guinea pigs.

BUT. if you are going to committ to taking it to that park EVERY day (because thats how much exercise a dog like that would need) and if you let it on ur yard to piss and stuff then i think it would be ok. but i doubt u could do that.

u need to buy a crate for the puppy to be kept in while ur at school bhecause it will tear up the place when its bored. put toys and blankets in there. maybe put the radio on to keep him company.

it is a dog. it has its own protection against the winter cold, just take him out like u usally do besides he'll get warm as soon as he runs around.

im bad at names soz
