A person put an ad in the paper selling their Weimaraner for $175.00, 10 mos old with papers. I called and the individual sounded nice and 'well to do". The person said that with their job they are unable to spend as much time with the dog. The dog cost the person $500 originally and is UTD on shots for another year and has papers and has been trained with housebreaking and obedience. The person said boarding the dog constantly has become too much trouble and expense and to come tomorrow to view the dog and see if I want to purchase it.

I am suspicious b/c I met a person once before who told this same story that his work became too much of travel and he had to rehome his small dog. He "took us for a ride" and the dog was aggressive, not UTD on shots, and then he said we stole his dog and he was suing us. Just a big mess, he never took us to court but he scared the heck out of us.

Is the above adoption fishy? The person did put the advertisement in the paper.

When you are ready to purchase the dog, draw up a "Bill of Sale" and only pay when it is signed. This will remove all doubt that he sold the dog to you.

Watch out for the scam where they must ship you the dog and want you to pay up front. Just say no thank you.

Don't go alone.

Not all people are * I had gotten a dog before he was 50 and had paper and shots but the owner had spent no time with the dog. Her is some information I would do Cut it out of the paper the ad and the I would make a contract saying etc and Sometimes people just don't want their kids to take care of it because they don't take care of it. I know I have a friend and her kids wont take care of their dogs.

you have to ask the person if you can visit the home and see. when you get the dogs papers, you can see if their lying about most things. ask for his vet papers and everything. maybe they just cannot simply take care of a puppy. even with a family, most kids don't want to care for a dog, there not that responsible.

i'd go to the house and get papers, check it out.

if your not sure go check it out.
if it doesnt feel right..then listen to your gut.
save the ad in the paper and any emails you may have with this person,so you wont have an issue like last time.
but honestly you never know what your going to get, until you already have the dog.and figure it out for yourself, like the last time.
your best bet....go to a shelter, you save a life and know exactly what your getting and the dogs health good luck!!

When you visit her, ask to see the papers and proof of shots.
Also make up a contract of some sort and get her to sign it, make sure it states that she is signing the dog over to you.
If you explain the situation, I am sure she will understand.

Just go over their. Ask 2 see all the paper work, look over the dog, if you have kids or other pets take them, If it's another dog meet outside at first. Spend time at their home with the dog. ask lot's of questions. It may be the best dog. Let us know. Good luck.

I would just make sure that you be very careful and tried to find out a little more about that person who is selling the dog.

Before adopting the dog you could request to have the vet records on the dog. So you know one way or the other on the health side of the dog.

Also if no one is home but the one person you could ask to come back again when the whole family is there so you can see how the dog interacts. Have your whole family go so you know also how the dog is going to react to those in your family.

Their family may not be willing to "babysit" a hyper puppy.

After your last experience, I'd be scared too!
It does sound fishy to me too. I think that if you like Weimarners that you should spend the extra $200 for a younger pup from a reputable breeder. It's a shame that this person invested all this money in this dog (if it's true) and didn't think about their job situation before getting a puppy! I'm wondering if the dog may be stolen or if it has major problems. 10 month old dogs (esp. for larger breeds) can be a major handful! Has the dog been neutered or spayed? That's another thing to consider. If it has not yet, you'll have to pay for that and that's another $100 atleast and it could explain why they're getting rid of the dog (because it hasn't been fixed and if it's a male could be getting very hormonal and developing behaviors common with un-neutered male dogs like humping and peeing on everything). This person SHOULD contact a Weimarenrer rescue group and have them find a home. And shame on them! It's nice that you considered the dog especially since it's not a little puppy and all but I'd trust your instincts.

I do not recommend getting dogs from newpapers in the first place, if you want to adopt then go to a shelter. But as far as if you get the dog and they try to say you stole it. Simple fix, is make up a written agreement saying this is how much you gave for the dog on this date and both of you sign and date it. That way if they do all you have to do is show the judge that piece of paper and there is nothing they can do. As for shots, make them show proof, and call the vet. Meet the dog a few times before taking him/her home with you.

the only way to find out is to go see the dog and the family and make your own decision after. take someone along who is familiar with the dog breed so they can evaluate the dog, and see what the home looks like and see how the kids act with the dog. If you decide to get the dog, get the papers, ask for copies of his shot records from the vet, and get a bill of sale from the owner. if he is not willing to do any of these things then don't get the dog. if the man is legit, he should try to do anything and everything to find this dog a loving home.

It does sound very fishy! I think that something worse could happen to you! Even worse than suing. I think you should cut off all connections with this person. Who knows? You could end up being smuggled into Siberia! I know that's a bit too unreal for real life but in life there are many possibilities!
