So today I briefly met my first Weimaraner..he kept staring into my eyes, not in a dominant way..but like a more curious kind of way, like he was trying to figure me out... It got me curious as to what they are like.

I wanted to know what they are like to live with..like their personalities, how easy they are to train, their exercise requirements, etc..

Thanks in advance!!

I have an 11-year-old female Weimaraner. Weimaraners are extremely intelligent dogs - almost as though they have a "human" brain. Mine has always been very curious. They can be creative and have stellar problem-solving skills. I've heard stories of Weims learning how to open a microwave and removing the cooked food to eat before the owner returned to the kitchen to find their food missing (LOL!)

They respond well to positive reinforcement training, but not to harsh treatment or yelling as a form of discipline. They are very energetic and REQUIRE a lot of exercise every day. Reconsider owning this breed if you live in an apartment or are a couch potato because they have so much energy. They also should not be left as an outside dog because they thrive on interacting with their "family" members and are very loyal.

It is important to start training this breed early on because they have a lot of pent-up energy and can become dominant and/or destructive if you don't direct their energy into positive outlets. It is also important to socialize them to people, other dogs and children early on. They have short hair and are easy to groom and bathe.

Caution: This breed has been overbred. If you choose to get a Weimaraner puppy, be sure that you meet the breeder at their home with at least one of the parent dogs and other puppies present. You do not want to buy one from a "backyard" breeder or pet store. Some traits that are seen in overbred Weimaraners are anxiety, aggression toward non-family members and skittishness.

I hope this helps! They truly are wonderful dogs, but are clearly not for everyone :D

Weimaraners are very loyal dogs. Very intelligent and charismatic. They do need a fair amount of exercise though. There only downfall I would day is that they tend to have extreme separation anxiety from there human. They will tear up a room. My boss had one and when they went on family trips and had a live in dogsitter, the dog chewed the bottom of the backdoor off and etc. Not saying that it's true for all weimaraners, but common. I think that a lot dogs can be that way though. Good Luck.

Well i have a weimaraner...he is nine month's old now, and he is a great dog. I don't think weimaraners are for everyone, as they do require alot of exercise. They are very easy to train, but are not for those who are buying one as their first dog. They need someone experienced to show them that they are the leader (as weimaraners try to be the dominant one). Their personalities are amazing, such a funny breed really. Indoors they can be the calmest dogs ever, as long as they get a fair amount of excersize outdoors. This breed suits my lifestyle, and is an amazing breed for us. As forseparationn anxiety, i have heard that this breed suffers from it, but have never had that problem with my dog. I just leave the t.v. on when im not home, and he stays calmuntill i get back.

Hope this answers your question ;)
