Okay so 2 weeks ago, my family bought a Weimaraner puppy. Shes 8 weeks on saturday. We are going to crate train her, but things arent going the way we want them too. First off, when you put her in a crate, She screams! you cant keep her in there for more than twenty minutes because she's so noisy. It's been two weeks and she still has not got used to that crate. We have been putting her in there since the first day we got her, and she still screams. the only way she will be half quite is if my mom sits right next to the crate. (yes, she's very attached to my mom.) were afraid she's already getting seperation anxiety! We dont put her in the crate all the time, only when she is getting herself into trouble which is most of the time. I dont know if we are not crate training her right or not, but somethings not working with her! please, can anyone give me some tips that they have used? Thanks! |

this is how we crate trained our dog. when no one was playing with him he HAD to go in the crate and no matter how much he cries you can't take him out cause he will turn into a beggar. eventually he will go to sleep anyway.put a chew bone inside to keep him occupied. let him out to pee of course. he wont go in the crate cause he will realize this is where he sleeps and lives. dogs wont do that where they sleep. eventually he will stop scrying about it. it took my dog a few months i think to completely get used to the crate. then we only put him in at night after a few months.. like 4-6 i think. then we left the crate open after another few months but didn't make him go in.. he went in by himself when we said go home. and he chose to sleep in there. after another few months we put the crate away. now he is an amazing little puppy. he does his business outside and everythings good :] hes going to be 4 tomorrow :] it's going to be hard but you can do it! |

what you can do is make it an enjoyable experience for her when she in there praise and give her treats have her go in by herself not by force, put a treat in there and when she goes in to get it praise and put a favorite toy and make it seem likes its a good thing to be there also take her on walks before to make her tired and so she would be relax and hopefully fall asleepp in the crate |

Okay try this, put a treat in the cage, and she will go in and get it,praise her whenever she does never force a dog in the cage or you will never train her properly, try to get her used to it. When ever you do put her in there put a toy she likes in there, crate training takes time...... |

Put the dog in the crate after a long walk after she's pottied and after he last meal for the day. She'll scream and you should ignore. Every 2-3 hours take her out and let her have the chance to potty. DONT play with her at that time. Then put her right back in the crate. Feed her in the crate and put her water in the crate doing the day. Only let her have food in the crate. She'll soon grow to like the crate and you may notice that she runs to her crate around meal time lol. Seperation anxiety is usually caused by people who baby their puppies too much and then when they leave the puppy doesn't know what the heck to do. When you leave keep her in a bathroom or kitchen or other room with no carpet. Eventually she'll get used to being alone for a little while and get used to her crate. |

I got a puppy last saturday & she is trained already!!
What I did was when she went to sleep on us I put her in her crate & kept the door open & when she wakes up she see's that it is a safe place to be & we eventually started closing the door on her & she now see's this as her safe place.
If she ever does anything wrong just make sure that you never tell er off in the crate because like I said this is her safe haven.
I have packed the crate full of toys because when they are with their siblings in the litter when one moves they all generally move & it makes then feel secure, they like to be touching things when they sleep, a like babies!!
I put on my iDock at night very low & she sleeps all the way through the night now with no cries.
Good Luck x
BTW My puppy screamed when she first when in but we got her out after about 2 mins & praised her & kept doing that. |

Well as difficult as this is going to be, you need to put her in there and when she screams, just ignore her. She knows right now that you will react to her noise and she gets what she wants which is being taken out of the crate. I had a similar problem with my boxer for the first few weeks I got him where he would whine or bark when I put him in the crate but I knew I had to ignore him. He learned he wasnt getting anywhere by whining and now he is good. You never hear a peep out of him. You may need some earplugs to get through it but dont cave in and let him out when he screams. he will soon stop. |

Crating should never be a punishment. Only put her in the crate when you can't watch her. Also her crate should only be large enough for her to stand up in, turn around and lay flat in. No bigger, if you have a bigger crate it probably came with a divider to make it smaller until she gets older. Try covering the sides and back of the crate with a blanket to make in more den like. Never put food and water in the crate. Never sit next to the crate because the animal cries. That causes anxiety not leaving her in there. When she cries or screams ignore her. When she's quiet for a period of time praise her but don't let her out. Once she's calmed down and maybe laid down praise her again and let her out. Make sure you let her outside to potty before and after crating. |
