I bought two silver labs about less than 3wks ago and they are very well behaved.......or at least they were until my husband bought a female weimaraner and now they are just as nuts and out of control as she is. Dax and Mae ( the silver labs) act like they did before Annie( the weimaraner) came home, when shes not in the same room as them. but when she comes around them they spin out of control and don't listen worth a darn. If i put like a shock collar on her would this help control her? is there any way to calm her down with out a shock collar? And how can i get Dax and Mae to listen to me and settle back down when Annie gets them going? PLEASE HELP ME .

BTW: my husband used a shock collar when taking or training our old pair of labs hunting and it seemed to keep them in line pretty well. that is why i was wondering if it would help Annie.
We've been thinking about putting her outside if she doesn't calm down, but there's like 2ft of snow outside I don't want her to freeze HELP!

Since the people who asked me to provide a pic are silver labs have no way for me to send them one and my scanner is broke so i can't scan a pic of dax and mae! Here is the site of the people were we got the labs http://www.silverlabs.com/index.html

Silver labs are so pretty! I am assuming that they are all puppies? Obviously the weim is the instigator. In our house it is the Manchester terrier, so she is allowed to be in the room with the other dogs if she can remain calm. As soon as she starts going nuts she either goes upstairs with our older dog who won't put up with it or she goes in her crate until she can calm down. This time of the year is hard because the dogs don't get as much exercise as they normally would, but maybe spending more time outside playing with the three of them would help (or if you have a fenced yard, put the three out together and let them be crazy outside).

hey no wonder you are going crazy you have 2 puppies and another dog! By the way how old is Annie? If she's a puppy too then wow pandemonium here we come.. I would never use a shock collar on a dog. These guys need to learn your rules around the house. But remember they are baby's and they forget so you have to be consistant and patient. Check Ceasar Milan's website he has great suggestions.

You have asked this before - the same answers you got before still apply ! You should never have got 3 high energy puppies together. There is no such breed as a Silver Lab - this is a name given by BYB's to designer dogs. They are not recognised by any bone fide kennel club anywhere in the world.

Before you use the shock collar on your dogs how about you put that thing around your neck or even your arm and see how that feels.... NOT TO GOOD!!!!
Pay them attention take them out side and run and play with them make them look at you and start with the basics and train them and if you can't train them then take them to a trainer....

NO SHOCK COLLAR

Are you going to keep asking this question until someone says something you agree with? Find a dog trainer, and exercise your dogs. I don't care what breed a dog is, they all need discipline and exercise.

Shock collars are a controversial and harmful method of obedience training. Do not use one on any animal unless you are also prepared to use it on yourself FIRST, and REPEATEDLY. These collars are not humane. They "train" using FEAR of PAIN, which is not the way to train. The way to train is reward. Reward as a method of obedience training only strengthens the bond between you and your canine companion.
Realize that puppies are bound to be shy in new home at first, hence the initial calm, but very soon they become the bouncy, rollie, pollie puppies they're supposed to be. Adding another pup, a female, no less, only ups the excitement level. Wouldn't you be excited if a member of the opposite sex walked in a room with the single-minded desire to play only with you? ENJOY this time -- it will be gone all too quickly once your pups grow and settle into young adulthood. If you're still at wits-end, try a few humane training classes at your local vet or pet clinic, or PetSmart store, which also offers low-cost training. This is a small investment for the reward you'll reap. And you'll feel so much better about yourself for not having resorted to methods of outright torture. Just because something is invented to make your life easier doesn't mean you should use it. Become an example for humane training methods. "The plain fact that my dog loves me more than I love him... always fills me with a certain feeling of shame." -- a quote by Konrad Lorenz

Well first of AKC doesnt recognize silver labs just go look at the standard and you will see.

Silver labs have unknown origin, most claim it to be a breeding between labs and weimaraners which i have seen been done before but that guy was shut down. To me all those dogs look like thick haired thick bodied weimaraners not labs.

But then again there is a gene going around that responsible akc breeders are breeding against. Its a gene that dilutes the chocolate and black coloring same with the white labs its a gene that dilutes the yellow

neither white or grey is akc recognized. But that still doesnt divert from the fact that most selling these "rare" silver labs are breeding weimaraners to labradors and pawning them off as purebreds.

No dont use a shock collar on these types of dog specially a weimaraner. Weimaraners are sensitive and putting a shock collar on them can make them aggressive, and worse then before.

All three of these are high energy dogs, which to me you failed to grasp when getting these dogs since you got so many at one time.

Only with real training and alot of exercise with these dogs settle down.

Directly from the breed standard
Color
The Labrador Retriever coat colors are black, yellow and chocolate. Any other color or a combination of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable. White hairs from aging or scarring are not to be misinterpreted as brindling. Black--Blacks are all black. A black with brindle markings or a black with tan markings is a disqualification. Yellow--Yellows may range in color from fox-red to light cream, with variations in shading on the ears, back, and underparts of the dog. Chocolate--Chocolates can vary in shade from light to dark chocolate. Chocolate with brindle or tan markings is a disqualification.
